Hazen Junior High Band
2025-2026 Grading Policy
Daily Grade (60%)
Each band student will receive up to 10 points daily. To receive full credit for their daily grade students are required to meet the following expectations.
1. Student arrives to class on time and is seated and ready to play at the start of class.
2. Student has all required materials in class every day. (Instrument, music, folder, pencil)
3. Student always maintains good playing posture when playing.
4. Student contributes to discussion in an appropriate manner.
5. Student is attentive during class, stays on task and does not distract others.
Playing Tests (20%)
Each band student may be asked to perform two or more playing tests during each quarter. The results of these tests will account for twenty percent of that student’s quarter grade. Students will be assessed on their individual performances. Students are expected to practice at home in order to prepare for class and their playing tests. Students will NOT be required to record their home practice times.
Concert Attendance (20%)
Members of the Hazen Junior High Band are responsible for attending all scheduled concerts throughout the year. Any unexcused absences will result in a 20% grade reduction that quarter. Mr. Harvey will make the determination if an absence is excused or unexcused. Required concert performances are scheduled as follows:
December 1 Middle School Band/Choir Christmas Concert
January 30 University of Mary Jazz Festival
March 2 Hazen Jazz Night
Feb/March TBA combined concert with Center/Stanton and New Salem/Almont
May 11 5-12 Band Concert

Method Book Purchase
All 7th and 8th grade band students will be asked to purchase the method book that we will be using in addition to our band concert pieces this year. The books will be used for both years in JH Band and will remain the property of the students. The cost for the books is $10. Please send payment with student by Friday, August 22. Eighth grade students who purchased a book last year do not need to purchase another one this year.
I often contact parents of band students via email throughout the year. Please make sure your email listed in PowerSchool is current.
