Hazen Sixth Grade Band
2025 - 2026 Grading Policy
Daily Grade (50%)
Each band student will receive up to 10 points daily. To receive full credit for their daily grade students are required to meet the following expectations.
1. Student arrives to class on time and is seated and ready to play at the start of class.
2. Student has all required materials in class every day. (Instrument, music, folder, pencil)
3. Student always maintains good playing posture when playing.
4. Student contributes to discussion in an appropriate manner.
5. Student is attentive during class, stays on task and does not distract others.
Playing Tests (35%)
All band students will be required to perform periodic playing tests each nine-weeks. These playing tests will sometimes be performed in class and will sometimes be submitted electronically. The playing test grade will count for thirty-five percent of the nine-weeks grade.
Private Practice (15%)
A student’s progress in band is directly connected to the number of minutes that he/she practices at home. Therefore, private practice (practice outside of band class) will count for fifteen percent of the nine-weeks grade. Students should record their practice times in the front cover of their band books. Parents need to total the practice times for the week and initial their child’s book at the end of each week. Band students must turn in their practice times for the previous week by Tuesday. Any signed practice times that are turned in on the first school day of the week will receive 10 bonus minutes. Students wishing to receive full credit for their home practice time need to turn in 60 minutes of private practice per week.
